Mountaineer Romi Garduce eyes new expedition on September
Dont expect to see Romeo "Romi" Garduce climbing some of the worlds highest mountains—at least for now.
Nowadays, the Filipino mountaineer, who in May 19, conquered the summit of Mount Everest, is busy testing his competitive spirit on other equally physically challenging activities.
Last Valentines Day, February 14, Romi participated in the North Faces "Thrill of the Trail" run held in Nuvali—Ayala Lands sprawling eco-community property located in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
"Tropa natin ang nag-organize nung race tapos kaibigan ko rin yong sponsor. Its good kasi matagal na akong nawala sa running community," Romi, who participated in the 11K challenge, told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview after the event.
Running has become popular lately, with big corporate companies taking the lead by organizing big events to encourage a healthy lifestyle as well as promote their respective brands to the buying public.

Heracleo ‘Leo’ Oración, born in Lucban, Quezon, is a Filipino mountaineer and sportsman widely recognized as the first Filipino to reach the summit of Mount Everest (8, meters or 20, feet above sea level) on May 17, , at the age of He reached the summit at p.m. (local time), together with 15 other climbers.
Prior to climbing Mount Everest, he worked as a lifeguard at the Shangri-La Hotel in Mactan Island, Cebu. He quit his job to pursue his passion full-time. Aside from being a mountaineer, he is also a triathlete who has won various adventure races. He and fellow Mount Everest summiteer Erwin ‘Pastor’ Emata are also enlisted officers of the Philippine Coast Guard. He is also a member of the triathlon team, Coast Guard-Sandugo, which placed second in the Philippine adventure race, the Carrera Habagat.
