Maureen Nolan was born in Inchicore, Dublin before moving to England aged eight - she began her singing career the same year! From the very beginning of her life in show business she was known as the ‘pretty one’. Something that although welcome, was not a mask for her undeniable talent. The busy family had always enjoyed one sacred day a year free from work – Christmas Day. In 1973, Tommy Nolan received a call asking the act to appear at a local hotel. He asked the exorbitant fee of £80! When the hotel agreed to the fee the family felt obliged to honour it. Fortunately they did – Joe Lewis, The hotel owner was staying in Blackpool for the holidays and so impressed was he at their performance, he offered them a residency at his new venue, The London Room in London’s West End.
Management at The London Room decided that the Nolan Sisters had more potential than the Singing Nolans and asked their parents to step down. Which they did. Stewart Morris, head of BBC head of light entertainment, brought in choreographer Nigel Lythgoe to create dance routines and new musical arrangements were created with John Coleman and Alyn Ainsworth. Biography

[edit]Nolan was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Tommy (26 September 1925 – 1998) and Maureen Nolan (15 December 1926 – 30 December 2007), as the fourth of eight children, including sisters Anne, Denise, Linda, Bernie and Coleen, and brothers Tommy and Brian, respectively.[1] The family lived in Raheny, a suburb of Dublin, before moving to Blackpool, England, in 1962.[1]

Maureen, along with her sisters, were a part of the singing group the Nolans. The Nolans had a number one hit in 1979 with their song "I'm in the Mood for Dancing". It charted at No. 2 on Irish music charts, and was No. 1 on charts in Japan and South Africa. Sister Anne left the group between 1980 and 1982, with Coleen stepping in for her. They won the 1981 Tokyo Music Festival with their song "Sexy Music".[citation needed]
